Sometimes, it takes a good travel to drag us out of our stressed and depressed states. It takes a little of a foreign air, new cuisines, some walking on the new roads, talking to new people and sleeping in different beds and sofas to feel good and fresh. I had one such experience. Born in Hyderabad, I decided to study architecture and settle in San Francisco. It has been seven years I have been working in this amazing place and not even a single day passed without me being grateful to this beautifully formed city of San Francisco. But deep down I was stressed a lot due to my work schedules and needed a break from this life. I donít believe in quitting jobs early and that was why I was sticking to my job. I knew I just wanted a break. So that is what led me to another idea of visiting my birthplace.

Yes, I was searching for online travel agencies to book tickets to India. Thanks to Indian Eagle for helping me out by booking cheap flights from San Francisco to Hyderabad. I felt good that things were all in my favor as the airfares were unbelievably low. I got to save a lot for shopping after all I was going to my city after such a long time.

As I boarded the flight, I started remembering the most beautiful times of my life in Hyderabad. I drifted back into the times when I used to spend a lot of time in Chowmahalla palace. Chowmahalla Palace or Chowmahallatuu, is a palace of the Nizams of Hyderabad state. It was the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad while they ruled their state. The palace remains the property of Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah, heir of the Nizams. In Urdu, Hindi Char means four, and even in Persian, Chahar means four and in Urdu and Hindi Mahal means palaces, hence the name Chowmahalla/four palaces. The palace is located in the old city in Hyderabad near the Charminar. All ceremonial functions including the accession of the Nizams and receptions for the Governor-General were held at this palace. The prestigious UNESCO Asia Pacific Merit award for cultural heritage conservation was presented to Chowmahalla Palace on 15 March 2010. UNESCO representative Takahiko Makino formally handed over the plaque and certificate to Princess Esra, former wife and GPA holder of Prince Mukarram Jah Bahadur.

Then comes the Charminar! The landmark has become a global icon of Hyderabad, listed among the most recognized structures of India. The Charminar is situated on the east bank of Musi river. To the west lies the Laad Bazaar, and to the southwest lies the richly ornamented granite Makkah Masjid. It is listed as an archaeological and architectural treasure on the official "List of Monuments" prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India. Historian Masud Hussain Khan says that the construction of Charminar was completed in the year 1592, and that it is the city of Hyderabad which was actually founded in the year 1591.

According to the book "Days of the Beloved", Qutb shah constructed the Charminar in the year 1589, on the very spot where he first glimpsed his future queen Bhagmati, and after her conversion to Islam, Qutb Shah renamed the city as "Hyderabad". Though the story was denied by the historians and scholars, it became popular folklore among the locals. Qutb Shah was also among the early poets of Dakhani Urdu, while laying the foundation of Charminar performed the prayers in Dakhini couplets.

There is so much to know and find in this city that you just seem to drift away to the times of your life. Everything makes you feel a sort of Dťjŗ vu and you canít help but feel overwhelmed. Just like the way I did and I didnít even know when my flight landed. Hyderabad has that effect.
